Independent verification · read-only
The ledger’s agents close the books. We prove they balance.
Intuit’s Accounting agent,1 Books Close,2 Xero’s JAX3 and Claude or ChatGPT acting through a connector4 all write to the books now — and each reports on its own work from inside the ledger it writes to. BookSyncHQ reads only. It ties two trial balances, an aging, or a bank statement to the ledger in integer cents, names each break’s likely cause, and issues a certificate a stranger can verify.

§ 1 · Why now
More agents work in the books than ever. None of them is independent of the books it works in.

Xero JAX
Reconciles bank lines in real time; announced July 8, 2026.
Inside Xero
BookSyncHQ
Reads both sides and writes nothing. Ties them out in integer cents and names every break.
On a certificate anyone can verify
The ledgers are fencing their data, too. Since March 2, 2026, Xero’s API is sold in tiers — Starter for 5 connections, Core at A$35 a month for 50, Plus at A$245 for 1,000 — and on every tier its data may not be used to train AI or machine-learning models. Apps created from that date must ask for granular scopes; BookSyncHQ asks for granular, read-only ones and trains nothing.
Books Close tracks the close. BookSyncHQ proves it — across QuickBooks and Xero, with a record a stranger can check.
§ 2 · The two liable moments
Two moments you personally sign for. Both of them are arithmetic.
Moment one · you move the books
A client moves off QuickBooks Desktop, and you sign that nothing was lost.
Trial balance, A/R aging, A/P aging and bank balances compared across both systems, account by account.
Exact equality in integer cents: a two-cent difference is a finding, not a rounding error.
Each break named from a catalog — Undeposited Funds residue, an Opening Balance Equity plug, sales tax payable against the agency liability, inventory valuation method.
Read, compare, name the break, certify. Nothing is estimated.
01
Read — never write
Connect QuickBooks Online or Xero read-only, or upload what you already export: a QuickBooks Desktop trial balance, an aging summary, a bank statement as CSV or OFX. No request BookSyncHQ makes to a ledger API is a write.
02
Tie out, to the cent
Account by account in integer cents, exact equality only. Both sides must self-balance. Accounts map by number, then by exact name; a fuzzy match is only ever a suggestion a person confirms.
03
Name the break
Every difference gets a likely cause from a deterministic catalog, with what to check and where to look in each system. Fix it and re-run, or accept it with a written reason — which then appears on the certificate’s face.
04
Issue the certificate
When every finding is fixed or accepted, the reviewer of record signs. The certificate is hashed, chained to the client’s evidence record and timestamped under RFC 3161, and anyone can check it at /verify.
A verifier agents can call. The same checks are exposed over the Model Context Protocol at /api/mcp — tie out two trial balances, reconcile a bank statement, verify a certificate — so Claude, ChatGPT or a firm’s own agent can ask for an independent answer instead of grading its own work.
§ 4 · The certificate
A certificate a stranger can verify — a lender, a buyer, the client’s CPA.
The certificate states what was compared, on what data, when, with what result, and who approved the resolutions. Its body is canonical JSON; its SHA-256 is recorded in the client’s hash-chained evidence record and anchored by an RFC 3161 timestamp. The public page recomputes the hash and checks the chain, so anyone can confirm it without an account — or offline, with openssl ts -verify.
What it certifies
That the figures named agreed, account by account, at the moment recorded, after the resolutions listed. Tamper-evident: a later alteration is detectable.
What it does not
It is not an opinion on the financial statements, and it does not examine transactions the two ledgers agree on. An operator with database access could rewrite a record — which is why the timestamp anchors the hash in time.

Certificate of Verification
Independent tie-out · Trial balance · Read-only
On July 6, 2026, BookSyncHQ compared the trial balance of Basil & Rye Bakery, LLC — sample as of June 30, 2026 in the built-in sample QuickBooks Desktop 2024 file with the trial balance in the built-in sample QuickBooks Online file — both identified by SHA-256 — account by account, in integer cents, exact equality only, and found the two Balanced: twenty-two of twenty-two accounts matched exactly, every difference 0.00, and each side self-balancing at 275,000.78. The first run found three breaks. The reviewer accepted one — Sales Tax Payable — with a written reason, which the certificate states; the corrected re-export then tied all three.
Drop a QuickBooks Desktop trial balance export and a QuickBooks Online or Xero export — or load the sample — and get the worksheet: every account, every difference, the likely causes. It is computed in the browser by the same engine that issues certificates. When you want it certified, it is $149 per entity.
Two prices, each per unit of the thing you are liable for.

§ 6 · What we hold
What we keep, where it goes, and what we refuse to call it.
Read-only, in code
Xero is granted read-only scopes. QuickBooks offers no read-only scope, so the rule lives in our code: no request to a QuickBooks or Xero API host is anything but a GET, apart from the token and revocation calls. Tokens are encrypted with AES-256-GCM and never reach the browser.
Evidence, not assertion
Every run, finding, resolution, approval, certificate and disconnect is appended to a per-client, hash-chained record. Editing, deleting, reordering or truncating any entry breaks the chain from that entry onward — tamper-evident, and we say so rather than more.
Data, on your schedule
Processed transiently under commercial API terms and never used to train models. Stored encrypted; deleted on your schedule. Disconnecting revokes the grant at the provider and deletes the stored credentials.
The reviewing owner of a small bookkeeping firm — two to nine people, twenty to a hundred QuickBooks Online or Xero clients, and a tail of QuickBooks Desktop files. The practitioner who personally signs off on the most client-months per pair of hands, and who is asked, sooner or later, to show that the books agree.
Isn’t the ledger’s own agent enough?
It may be very good. It is not independent: it reports on its own work from inside the ledger it writes to. BookSyncHQ reads both sides, compares them in integer cents with deterministic arithmetic, and leaves a record a third party can check without trusting either of us. That is the difference between a close being tracked and a close being proved.
Do you ever write to my client’s books?
No. Ledger access is read-only, and it is enforced in code: the only non-GET requests BookSyncHQ makes to QuickBooks or Xero are the OAuth token and revocation calls. When a tie-out finds a break, it names the likely cause and where to look; you make the correction in the ledger, and the re-run proves it.
What does a certificate prove — and what doesn’t it?
It proves that two named sets of figures agreed, account by account in integer cents, at the moment recorded, after the resolutions listed on its face — and it is tamper-evident: its SHA-256 hash, its place in the client’s evidence chain and an RFC 3161 timestamp make a later alteration detectable by anyone at /verify. It is not an opinion on the financial statements, and it does not examine transactions the two ledgers agree on.
Where does the data live?
Processing: ledger data is processed transiently under commercial API terms and is never used to train models. Storage: tie-out results and the evidence record are stored encrypted and deleted on your schedule; ledger credentials are encrypted, held only for the connections you authorize, and revoked when you disconnect. The free tie-out at /check runs in your browser.
Is there a QuickBooks Desktop shutdown date?
Intuit has published no end-of-support date for QuickBooks Desktop 2024. What is true: new Pro, Premier and Mac subscriptions ended September 30, 2024, services for the 2023 line ended May 31, 2026, and no newer Desktop version has shipped. Intuit converts Desktop files to Online for free; being migration-ready means that when a date is announced, the move is a tie-out, not a project. Verified September 23, 2026 against Intuit’s own pages.
Do I install anything?
No. BookSyncHQ runs in the browser: connect QuickBooks Online or Xero once, or upload the reports you already export from QuickBooks Desktop. Nothing is installed on your machine or on the client’s.
§ 8 · Design partners
Fifteen firms get the first certificates, hand-delivered with a founder.
Priority on the first migration and close verifications, a direct line to the people building it, and pricing held at the rates above. Nothing to install: connect a ledger in the browser, or send the exports you already make.
A founder replies to every request — not a drip campaign.
